So reading all the reviews I thought I'd share our family experience at this restaurant. Over the last probably 5 years we've been there 3 times. The first two times were amazing, my brother fell in love with the California rolls, the chef was nice and it was generally just a really good experience. The last time we went was nearly 2 years ago now. When we arrived there was literally just us and a couple in the restaurant. The chef/owner greeted us and within about 1p mins we figured out he was intoxicated. The staff around him seemed extremely nervous and scared of him the entire time we were there. As we got our food, the owner decided to come and talk to us. This talk turned into him goin...

Decided to give this a try on a rainy Sunday lunchtime, we got there about 12.30pm and were the first customers that lunch time. We were looking over the menu when chef Da Shan introduced himself, asked what sushi we liked, told us to hand back the menus and leave it to him, then for the next hour or so proceeded to make some amazing sushi personalised whilst chatting merrily away to us, while also leaving us to ourselves some of the time as well. Yes it was quite expensive for sushi but it genuinely was one of the most memorable restaurant experiences we've had, including many more expensive restaurants, both for quality and the experience of having a personal chef. We'll certainly go back....

Located in the Chinatown precinct in Fortitude Valley, Oyama's is a popular restaurant amongst locals. We have been eating here for over 25 years. The quality of the food is second to none. The Oyama hand roll is a must have - featuring a hot, crisp tempura battered prawn with avocado, topped with mayonnaise and flying fish roe, then rolled in sushi rice and crisp nori - you can't stop at just one!Head chef and owner DaShan is passionate and entertaining. Don't be surprised if he bursts into song, having been trained to sing in the Beijing opera. You can choose between sitting at: the sushi bar, to watch the Master at work; a la carte seating or their dual teppanyaki grill bar.Sunday lunch is... We had a group of 13 for teppanyaki The wait and bar staff were lovely - The chef didn't really interact with us until the end for the fried rice and the catching of the eggs. This was my first time at teppanyaki and my friends who had been before said they had been to better and kept asking why the chef was not talking to us. The food was amazing but did not fill any of us up. The boys stopped for food on the way home. Overall it was a good experience for my first time but i wouldn't go back for teppanyaki, I would try another place.

Well yes! In Brisbane going to Oyama is now a mandatory step ... I always go for lunch during the week when there are few people. I sit at the counter and the patron starts making sublime express dishes !! One, two, three and forward to exhaustion !! Exceptional sushi, rolls etc etc prepared in front of my eyes !! Can't wait to go back !!

Ok night out in front of the teppanyaki grill. It was quiet (Thursday) but we had a very competent chef who put on all the bells and whistles you expect when you get teppanyaki.Wasn't great value for money the portion sizes were average

I have been to this restaurant many time over the years. Its a little pricey but definitely worth it. Never had a bad meal or service for that matter the hand rolls are from heaven and the beef asparagus and ginger pork are fantastic Réservez une table maintenant

The service was incredible, the staff were so friendly and very attentive. The food was beautiful and full of flavour, but what was great was the chef's sense of humour and how much fun we had
