Even though I live in Wheaton, I happily make the 45-minute round trip to shop at Prime "n" Tender Meats rather than going to the meat store just five minutes away, which falls short in every way. I came across Prime "n" Tender Meats after visiting the Hinsdale Animal Hospital nearby with my Labrador. We were looking to try a new sandwich place but ended up discovering so much more! They have an excellent menu, including hot lunch options available from 11 AM to 3 PM, and the atmosphere is very clean and welcoming. They also carry a great selection of frozen items that are incredibly tasty. You must try their fresh cannoli, made to order! I had a panini with grilled chicken added, and my husband chose the steak burger. We even picked up a frozen meat lasagna to enjoy for dinner later.
Where should I start? The owner and staff are genuinely amazing people. The quality of the meat here is outstanding; I can't picture buying tri-tip anywhere else. The side dishes that come with your meal are also excellent. The place has a classic butcher shop atmosphere, and cash is king—plus, you even get a discount for paying with cash. Whether you're picking up steaks for a family dinner or bringing some to a friend's house, it's a fantastic option. Everyone I've recommended P-N-T to has become a loyal customer.
We ordered Beef Wellington this Christmas and were quite disappointed. The amount of meat was minimal compared to the large pastry, and it lacked flavor. Given the price, it was embarrassing to serve. The one-hour cooking instructions were incorrect, resulting in the meat being overcooked and ending up well done and tough. Overall, it was a terrible experience for our first try. Next year, we'll be sticking with Doffler's Meats in Buffalo Grove, which is far superior!
