Having dined here many times before (prior to the renovations), I went there for lunch with a friend today. I'm afraid whatever they spent on the renovations is a waste of money. Apart from the helpful young fellow behind the bar, the visit was a disaster. The whole set-up is confusing, as is the website. No-one greeted us to begin with and then we discovered we were seated in some trendy part of the place called "Botanical", whatever that's supposed to mean. We were there for meat.Having reseated ourselves and ordered, we were told half an hour later that the garlic bread we had ordered for entrée wasn't available. Unfortunately for him, the fellow from behind the bar was given the task of t...

wandered in on friday night looking for some 'fine dining' at first we were directed to th epub till we worked out ourselves there was a restaraunt Young staff seemed very inexperienced They provided water (important to me) we enjoyed the 1998 bin 389 that is a bit special We agreed to share the whole fish of the day but were not given a second plate -it became a bit messy adapting bread and butter plates -unlike other reviews I thought the fish was very well cooked and sides were good including potato scallops in duck fat (it was actually pretty good) despite only 2 tables being occupied they still managed to get order wrong (ordered caramelized brussell sprouts and had to remind staff and...
NEGATIVE A friend and I were having a drink at Farrier last night and we thought we'd stay at the QA for dinner. When I ordered the Pumpkin, Goat's Cheese and Sage Lasagne the waitress told me she'd have to check that it was available so I new it was either very popular or very unpopular. It came out looking quite unusual (it covered the whole plate) but quite appealing, but it terms of flavour just didn't work - loads of parmesan, sweet relish and dukkah, and a little bit of pasta and goat's cheese. Awkward service from our waitress. We won't be back.
The renovated restaurant/dining area is very nice and we were expecting the 'seasonally fresh' food promoted on the website.I had the lamb pie and it was a disaster.Frozen hard peas straight out of the packet.Frozen pie straight out of the packet. At the price, I expected it to be 'home baked' in the kitchen. I could have gone to supermarket and paid $2.00 for this frozen pie.The mashed potato, I suspect, was also processed.I was VERY disappointed at the laziness of the kitchen with such a terrible offering. I dined here with girlfriends on a Thursday night and was pleased that they had a $10 pizza special! We shared 3 pizzas between 4 of us and still had plenty to takeaway home. The vege pizza had a yummy Japanese mayo on top although watch out for the huge chunks of roasted garlic. The prawn and pork pizza had a good kick to it. The bill was split very well when we went to pay. The atmosphere was quiet inside so would have been better to sit outside on this occasion.
Botanical.. the worst service of any restaurant in a long time. Could have gone elsewhere in James street and got better value for our $380 . From the time it took to get a Negroni from another part of the pub (15 plus minutes) to plates not taken from the table to the absentee waiters. The restaurant is a side show to the main pub. No wonder it was empty.
Went to dinner with friends, meals ordered at the same time but can out with an hours different and the second meals were cold. The duty manager refunded meals but only the late meals, and no opinion or new meals or even a round of drinks. Service was terrible, we did get an apology and told they had problems in kitchen. Will never go there again.
Enjoyed a few beers on this spot since been spending a lot of time around James street. I like the service and the drinks, the place has a good vibe, but the crowd in here can get a bit rude sometimes... they sell takeaway alcohol which was a pleasant surprise! Réservez une table maintenant
Disgusting. So called tempura snapper. Tempura batter was like rubber and the snapper was brown, dry and (as said before) disgusting. Will never be going back to this place EVER.
