After making a reservation on Wednesday for an outside dinner on Friday we presented ourselves at the hotel/ restaurant reception 8 PM. Apparently the management had decided to close the restaurant (for external guests that is, the hotel guests were dining happily! without making a...small effort to send a short notification by sms or without taking a minute of their time for a call… They did have our name and number to do so! Incredible! There you are, hungry, without any kind of possible alternative because all restaurants in the village were fully booked. Nous avons visité le grill pour le déjeuner, selon les nombreuses recommandations que nous avons vues en ligne. La nourriture était bien cuite et le steak agréable, servi avec de petits pots de sauce à tremper, des kartoffels de style Brat et des paniers de mini-mais. Nous avons trouvé que c'était un peu cher, étant donné la quantité de nourriture au total (les portions de viande étaient petites et nous nous attendions à plus de douceur en accompagnement). Nos très jeunes enfants ne voulaient pas la moitié du steak du menu pour enfants et le restaurant était inflexible sur toute alternative, la seule possibilité étant de commander une portion adulte de quelque chose d'autre. Nous avons mangé dans ce restaurant après une recommandation. Le repas était agréable, en particulier les plats de poisson en plat principal. Nous avons dîné sur la terrasse intérieure car le restaurant était complet, mais je suis content que nous l'ayons fait car il ne faisait pas froid et il y avait suffisamment de chauffage pour nous garder au chaud. Le seul point négatif était en fin de soirée. Nous avons demandé l'addition et laissé un pourboire généreux. Cependant, certains des serveurs n'étaient pas au courant que nous avions payé et avaient l'intention de bloquer nos sorties, ce qui était très désagréable.
We have been to this restaurant several years running. It’s one of our favourite places! The menu and the food are simple, but always delicious! I can’t eat shellfish and only eat a little fish, but what is on the menu is just amazing! The...fish is melt in your mouth and the accompaniments are very innovative and interesting! We treated ourselves to a lovely relaxed lunch on the nice courtyard terrace, sheltered from the sun by the umbrellas. Fillets of John Dory (St Peter's fish) accompanied by artichoke, asparagus, spinach, potatoes and truffle mash were delicious. To follow one had the signature roast...banana pineapple with grapes and grapefruit sorbet (excellent) , the other rum baba. Service was perfect. Accompanied by 500ml of Ile de Ré white, which was very good.
We write again....visited L'Ocean last night and once again, outstanding service and food. In the light of the pandemic, this felt a very safe place to be and enjoy excellent cuisine and service. Perfectly attentive but never overly so. We would all (kids included) recommend...L'Ocean by far our favourite restaurant (not just on Ile De Re). My husband as always, skipped dessert and went straight for the Irish Coffee. He is still saying try it!
