Despite I have been living in New West for more than 7 years and this restaurant is just half a block away I have visited that place just once before, long time ago. When I walked by that restaurant, I found it usually totally empty; rarely I saw one or two tables occupied. As far as I remember, the impression of the previous meal there was not so great. good place in this nice city that most looks like a neighborhood of the big Vancouver. I hear and read so much great view about this restaurant , I always keep it open mind ,try it out first ! that is my personally opinion , Wow ! what a disappointment !!! Friday night ,the place is all most EMPTY! We happened to stumble upon this restaurant only because we could smell the delicious aroma a mile away. Upon arrival it seemed like one of those seedy restaurants that might serve stuff which is questionable but in their defence we came at 6pm when it was dead. The hostess/ waitress was very friendly and patient with our requests and the food. OMG THE FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. this is my new go-to-Indian-restaurant. The bread (naan) was perfectly made and we had the shahi korma was as rich as the description on the menu. Thumbs up to the chef. We even kept eating long after our stomach was stuffed. That's how good the food was. Highly highly recommend!
This place is a little unnoticeable space on 6th Street in New West that is a hidden jewel. The food is DELICIOUS. Somehow they have had reviews stating their portions are small, but I've eaten at many an Indian food restaurant and found them to be more than ample...no bigger or smaller than any other Indian restaurant i've eaten in. The lamb saag is very yummy as is the butter chicken. They will also make you a side of VERY hot sauce in case some of your party are not into hot food (order it medium and add the hot sauce). perfect. also, good rotis....a great find.
I've been wanting Indian food for a few weeks now, and we finally managed it. We had not tried Royal Tandoori before and are very happy we did! We just finished the Veggie Korma, Butter Chcken! Lamb Vindaloo and some veggie pakoras, and it was all delicious. I'm not really a huge fan of lamb, generally, but theirs is wonderful. The vegetables in the korma dish were still firm and not overcooked, and the sauce was lovely and creamy. We will definitely be going back. Well done, and thank you for an excellent meal!
Love this place! I've been ordering takeout from here for 2-3 times a month for the past 2 years. The food is always delicious. We order medium spice and its quite spicy so for first timers or people that aren't that into spice order it mild to start and you can always add chillies to spice it up. The owner and all the staff are very friendly. A great family run business!!Moving away at the end of the month and Royal Tandoori missed!!!Do yourself a favour and go and have the Butter Chicken or Chicken Tika Masla.
This place is really like you are on Indian time ( if you plan on having dinner at your home and do a takeout; your guest will have to wait for hours for food ( they tell you 20mins but it's like an hour ( the owner; he tells you it's food industry) come check out the kichen to see how busy it is!. You think they will apologize or if give you discount because they are wayyyyy late! Nopa!. Worst service EVER !!
The Royal Tandoori is an excellent restaurant for the uninitiated to experience Indian cuisine because their menu explains what each dish offers. We started with the samosas and for the main we enjoyed the butter chicken and prawn masala with mango ice cream and rice pudding for dessert. Prices were very modest also.
