Love the seafood chawamushi, it tastes even better than one at Isami. The portion is smaller but it has so much flavour. My husband gushes over the flavour. The spicy scallop roll is really good and very fresh. Just a bit disappointed that it is not spicy at all. We also had the three kind assorted sashimi and house special dynamite roll. The dynamite roll is really good and prawn they use is big and very fresh and good quality. The salmon sashimi and scallop sashimi are really good and fresh. Their salmon sashimi is one of the best I've taste anywhere. They use very good quality rice here so it makes the sushi roll tastes really delicious. We also love Mai dai kama sakamushi which is the st...

It’s been a year or two since my first visit to Shima-Ya Sushi. It’s run by a Japanese couple. They’re a bit hidden but London Drugs is your best landmark. Hours. Closed on Monday and Tuesday. We dropped in on a Friday evening (around 7:30pm) and it was surprisingly not too busy. It did randomly pick up and get busy half an hour later. It’s a small, 20 seater (four tables and 8 seats at the sushi bar). Service is friendly and our green tea was constantly refilled throughout our meal.

We decided to try Shima-Ya based on mixed recommendations from friends. Overall, we enjoyed the food served to us and thought it was worth the price. However, we were a bit disappointed with the ratio of rice to fish in the Battera and nigiri dishes. The nigiri had too much rice compared to the amount of fish. The wasabi spread on the nigiri was good though. Despite our enjoyable experience, we probably won't be returning to Shima-Ya as we preferred the food and prices at Isami.

The sushi rice....oooooh! It's fundamental to good nigiri, rolls and cones. These guys have it down right. The sashimi is fresh, exceptional and just the right size. It's a small and simply decorated space. You won't even notice as you melt into your meal. Come here for the quality of food. And, come here early. Many get turned away as they fill up quick. The sushi and sashimi at this restaurant are incredibly fresh. It feels like I am dining in Japan! I can never resist stopping in for lunch whenever I drive by. It is simply delicious!

You get what you pay for. This place is a little more pricey than others on Victoria Drive but the quality and taste of the food is far superior. The staff are really nice too : .

This restaurant offers some of the best sushi in GVA at a reasonable price. It's best to go in the middle of the week for dinner to ensure they don't run out of fish.

The restaurant is a bit small, so it tends to get crowded. However, the food and service are excellent. It's the best sushi in town! Réservez une table maintenant

If you are looking for excellent sushi, this is the spot to go! Much better than most of the popular places that make headlines!
