After exiting our Princess cruise my husband and I stopped for a coffee inside the shop. My husband went off to the other side of the shop to make a phone call. I was approached by the rudest shop person I have encountered who told me to go outside with the luggage. I was prepared to to this as soon as my husband got back as I was very ill with a chest infection and was unable to carry two persons luggage and told her this. She came back a few minutes later and demanded that I leave with the luggage and she proceeded to pick up my handbags and luggage and dump it outside in the drizzling rain. I read all the reviews and thought that I just had to see these rude and unfriendly people for myself, when I caught up with an old friend today. We both looked and saw only friendly efficient service with a good range of food and surprisingly very good coffee. We had toasted vegetable focaccia and both really enjoyed them. We sat outside where our order was promptly brought to us. We chatted for hours under the umbrellas on a lovely sunny 27 degree day in Melbourne. Most enjoyable. Sorry to hear that other people's experiences were not the same. I see really bad reviews here and I'm surprised, but it seems it has nothing to do with the coffee or food so much as the service. I didn't have any issues with the service, though it was very brief and to the point which I like. I don't care much for idle chit-chat but perhaps Melbournites expect this... not sure about that part... Anyway, I thought the coffee was very nice and the service fast which is what I look for and it was reasonably priced. If you should go here I hope you encounter prompt polite service, which is what I got. No issues from my side.
Shop opens at 6.30am... I went to order coffee and breakfast at 6.45am (i understand if cooking doesn't commence until 7am that's fine) but the Rudest lady (maybe owner...looks like she would eat her own young) snapped at me and said no breakfast until 7am I AM NOT READY TO COOK YET!! I would have been happy with a simple "sorry we don't cook until 7am etc etc" ...probably should have told her to stick her breakfast up her clacker but I didnt. Never mind won't go there again. Don't be fooled by the photo. All we could see from our table was the back of two shipping containers. We ordered two thick shakes. The order wasn't even put through despite the place being mostly empty. When they came they were weak flavored and more milkshake than thick shake. Staff were rude and unfriendly. I'd score it less than one if I could. Should've checked the reviews before I sat down.
It was comfortable sitting inside out of the rain. Spuntino's is right at the tram terminus and across from the ferry terminal. There are many food choices from cakes, pastries, sandwiches made to order, and toasted sandwiches. I had a pie and coffee and thought I got good value. My choice was nothing special, but filling.
Good place on the weekend to have a coffee and cake or a light lunch with a range of wraps, panini, salads and hot food e.g.Pasta. Nice to pick up ice-cream for the kids. Also a nice little casual coffee place for a stop opposite the Tasmanian Ferry and while away some time relaxing.
