We went to this pub yesterday for Sunday lunch and we were very impressed. It’s a really nice cosy pub and the staff were all so polite and helpful. We both ordered a starter of chicken liver pate followed by beef with all the usual veg and Yorkshire puddings. In all honesty, next time we will order one portion of pate to share because it came with far more toasty bread than you usually get and we ended up asking to take quite a lot of the pate home with us. A group of friends booked this restaurant for dinner while in the area. We were greeted by a very enthusiastic and friendly staff member who showed us to our table and took our order when we were ready. The lighting was very dim, which may have been a challenge for those with visual impairments such as cataracts. The food arrived promptly and was tasty and plentiful, ensuring no one left hungry. However, there was an optional 10% service charge added to the bill, which some may find off-putting as it can put the customer in an awkward position. While happy to leave a tip in this case, the responsibility should not be on the customer to opt out of the service charge.
I booked this venue via email, as a motorhome stop over en-route to Scotland. I requested a table for two. I received a positive reply within minutes. On arrival, we were given a very warm welcome. The venue was spotlessly clean, log fires burning and the food was exceptional and very reasonably priced. The staff were very efficient, polite and helpful. The village itself is lovely too. We will definitely be returning here on our trips to the North East.
Excellent christmas lunch at the Black Horse Swainby. My family really enjoyed the experience. Food was very good, service brilliant and the staff pleasant and courteous. Special call out for Carlos who was very helpful when taking our booking earlier in the year and on the day made the event special especially for my two grandsons.

We had a delightful experience at this restaurant. The service was warm and friendly, and the meals were excellent. There were plenty of interesting choices on the dinner menu. We were happy to find out that the restaurant is dog friendly, so we were able to bring our sheepdog with us. The Wi-Fi service was also good.
Upon arrival, drinks were promptly ordered and brought to the table, by a kind and lovely waitress, Daisy. Food was then ordered and again brought to the table in excellent timings, despite how busy it was and was all perfect. Lovely little pub in a lovely little village. Would definitely recommend and come again
We are staying locally in the area and have visited this pub 3 times for lunch , you really can’t go wrong. Fantastic home cooked menu , friendly service by all the staff here especially Catherine and such a homely welcoming feel. We would come back to the area just to visit this pub it really is that good !
Our party of 33 was impressed with the delicious, piping hot food that was served to us all at the same time! It's rare to find such great food and service, and we were very grateful for the experience.
