I'm sorry to have to write this because I don't like giving negative feedback, but I strive to be an honest reviewer. Here’s my experience: it seems like the manager here is quite strict, and the staff appears to be on edge all the time, which makes me feel bad for them. For example, I overheard one staff member say, “I better get these empties or I will get told off.” When I walked in, every staff member turned to look at me, clearly anxious. I suspect the man with the tattoos and cowboy boots is the manager, as he was running the BBQ when we arrived. Disgusting service! It wasn't until after a friend ordering and paid that they were stung with a service charge 75p! And card ONLY payment is idiotic just look what happened to Ramsgate when they went card only, and they really want cash. The Bulls Head used to be a friendly pub prior to these people taking it over. I shan't be back.. Disgusting! I'll be leaving a review on trip advisor too. Staff rude and so uncomfortable. Also the service charge I believe was abolished I was told by someone who work's in hospitality. Dissatisfied with the service popped in for a quick drink and found the 4 people stood around the bar to be uninterested in serving us (or taking a second order, so we left after our first). The fact they charged 12.5% service was rubbing salt in the wound not even a thank you when paying, only a lazy arm held out for the POS machine no goodbye when we left. We were perfectly polite and surprised at this experience. I hope the owner reads this the refurb you have done is fantastic great style, effort and sophisticated. If you can sort the service out to match the surrounds, you'll have a gem. Will come back in time to come and hope for a better reception.
Looks like a nice little hip place but was confused by pricing and judging by others they were also. I didn’t eat food, just ordered a drink so wasn’t aware that the service charge would apply to me just having a drink. Makes sense why my drink was nearly £8 However the bar staff and owners all seem lovely and decent people Judging by other review I’ll probably be in for a cocky response to my review but that’s ok they are entitled to respond as much as I am to review Only stopped by cause I see the bbq going but £12 for a bbq burger….I’ll pass I wish the business the best of luck in the future but wasn’t the vibe I was looking for Good luck Réservez une table maintenant
I’m afraid I agree with one of the other reviews re: the service charge. I ordered a pint and was expecting to be charged the £6 chalked up on the board. When I queried the additional 75p service charge, I was told it was clearly stated on the board, which it was down at the bottom but as I was inside the bar and the pint was handed straight to me where is the service element? A point I raised at the time. Surely at this point the server ? should have said it was optional? Instead it was bluntly stated that it was on the board and so my own fault for not reading it properly. Anyone, lesson learned. I won’t be back.
We found this gem by accident , they do a BBQ on a Sat and Sun and it smelt amazing ! Unfortunately they had stopped serving food , the chef came and said there was some food left over and if would like to have it ! It was a ground beef flat bread and a corn Thai inspired dish, all I can say it wow ! The food and flavours were amazing ! We chatted to all the friendly staff and owner and we will definitely be back , we wish you lots of luck x
It’s great to have a proper pub in the old town, but this one misses the mark a bit by lacking a bar and only offering table service, which is a significant downside. It creates a somewhat isolated atmosphere where you can't interact comfortably like you would at a bar. Additionally, you're at the mercy of the staff's attentiveness. On top of that, I was charged a 12.5% service fee without being informed or asked if I wanted it.
