I first graced the steps of this place in 2019. Wowsers to the changes. To call it a ‘gastro-pub’ is detrimental. It appears that three fabulous ladies run it now. Correct me if I’m wrong. I popped in for some beverages but ended up staying until supper. Extremely surprised that they have a 100% vegan option. Spicy, zingy and mouthwatering green lentil and five bean chilli. Proper comfort food in an ample portion. Like me, they don’t like food waste. So I have a carton of leftovers. Non alcoholic drinks by request. We arrived for a casual drink. We were met by a convivial host and attentive staff that were able to advise on recommendations for our choices. We ended up staying for a meal (booking recommended as we were very lucky) as the menu looked good and the dishes coming from the kitchen looked even better! We then read in the Courier we were in venue that was actually in the weekend supplement we were reading. A fantastic ‘real pub’ in the heart of the Kingdom that didn’t disappoint.
We booked a lunchtime slot following a dog walk. The atmosphere is pleasant and friendly, the staff are attentive. The Steak Pie was excellent as were the Fish and Chips. The Macgregor Red Ale was so good that I just had to have a second one, just to confirm my first impression. We will be returning.
A fantastic Christmas lunch!! Restaurant was extremely busy, and I know they had some timings issues, but we had an amazing time! Food was great, the wine and champagne flowed and a great lunch was enjoyed. All without having to do the washing up afterwards. Would recommend!!

Great tasty food with helpful and quick service. On our visits we have had the fish and chips, steak pie, scampi and bacon and cheese burger all absolutely excellent and served with well cooked thick cut chips. Perfect for a pub lunch and drink.

We went for Xmas dinner yesterday the meal to put it bluntly was awful we went last year and the meal was excellent so what was the problem yesterday had to be different chef after our experience the year before
Food overpriced and poor quality. Everything really bland. Service friendly but very inefficient. It’s like staff have had no training whatsoever. Will not be returning

Had a lovely meal here, very reasonable price. Food was piping hot and good sized portion. Young lady who served us was very friendly. Will definitely be back
