Staying in the area we ventured to The Generator and were very happy we did. Friendly greetings when we entered. Both ordered the potato cakes which were crunchy on the outside and mash inside with bacon pieces through it. It was served with a poached egg perched on top and covered in Bearnaise Sauce which was a little bit overdone , ie too much making it quite rich. A side salad was fairly standard affair, a collection of green leaves with a nice dressing.The coffee was very good and the industrial/theatre style decor is wonderful. When my wife suggested this place, I was thinking it will be a tradie type pleace as the location is in the industrial area of Coburg. Boy was that wrong. This is a trendy rustic type of cafe.Staff very friendly, prices are on par with the Coburg / Brunswick area.Wife had the bacon potato cake.Big Breakfast was $18.50Breakfast Burrito was $16.50 and plenty on the plate.Small but busy in the morning.Highly recommended
I often turn up here for breakfast. It's become my favourite place to get eggs benedict with salmon in the area. However I've also eaten the burger, which was excellent, tried their thickshake, which was too big for me to finish, and eaten a croque monseuoir, which was good but too rich for my taste. An interesting thing they do is each dish is accompanied with a small pot of tomato relish.
On a rare Tuesday morning we had free went to The Generator as our normal go to was closed.It was fantastic! From the delicious breakfast that neither of us could finish, to the prompt and friendly service to the soundtrack, everything ticked boxes for us!Will be back, keen to try more of the menu and next time have to grab some of the delicious cakes from the fridge, they looked amazing!

Today we tried our the generator, & we'll be back.We both had the generator smash (large potato cake topped with avo smash topped with a poached egg).Excellent hangover cure, thank god.The coffee was excellent, which is important.The staff were very pleasant, if a little rushed, they looked like they could use one more wait staff.Over all we were very happy and will be back.
We saw the reviews on here TA and decided to try it out. Although the food took a long time to come out it was worth it I had the bacon potato cake with avo smash and it was beautiful. My husband had the breakfast burrito he thought it tasted good. Rustic urban feel, only a little cafe but gee it was good . Prices are on par with other cafes in coburg.
Found this little quaint Cafe one morning. Staff are so friendly and inviting. The food is fantastic with a great selection of food. Loved the Generator Smash, would recommend anyone to try it. Atmosphere was so friendly, warm & relaxing. A+++++++
We have recently discovered the Generator, a cafe in Coburg north that does an awesome breakfast. Coffee and milkshakes are excellent and all food we've tried has been delicious. The bacon potato cakes are a favourite.

I went with a friend for a late breakfast. I had the hangover breakfast and it was huge and delicious. It was a great find and close by to where I was staying.
