Me and my friend stopped by here on Wednesday to use the toilet have a quick drink and a rest . I 've never felt so unwelcome in all my life,not just by the landlord, by all . The first thing I expect is manners but not a single thing after me ordering saying thankyou , the pub seemed to have changed the moment we went in to silence . I went to put my change in the fruit machine when the landlord raced over , angrily shouting that it was 'broken ' . I asked if i could have some change for the pool table but was told 'locals are using it ' (no one was using it) . Honestly, when you walk around Thirsk Market Place on a Saturday night, all the pubs appear to be similar with locals wanting to drink and be noisy. We decided on the Royal because it seemed quieter, but it turned out to be just like the rest. I don't mind ordinary local pubs, and the Royal falls into that category. The landlord was friendly, the beer was good, and the locals we talked to were nice. It's a nice pub, but nothing particularly exceptional.
We popped in after visiting the museum for a quick drink. The place looks like it has just been refurbished and is very clean and well decorated. The girl behind the door served us quickly whilst we were greeted by Ozzy the dog who was adorable!! The place was empty except for us which is a shame as it was a lovely little bar.
Having lived in thirsk for over 20 years I am well use to busy race days however being told by door staff that regulars only were being allowed in totally shocked me . Letting people in all around us, this is not how other pubs treat punters . This pub is often being taken over so I and others can 't wait till that happens .

A nice place to have a few beers. It was pretty quite when we were in but we enjoyed it it has a juke box and a pool table to keep us amused. The toilets are clean and tidy, always a good thing the beer was as it should be and bar staff very friendly an enjoyable time, would definetly go back in.
Similar to the previous reviewer, Thirsk is not a great place for a night out. All the pubs are very similar. The standout feature of this one is that the lager tastes unpleasant. I would give it 2 stars because the service is friendly, but I will not be returning.
I stopped by for the first time since Covid and was impressed with their setup to ensure both Covid safety and customer satisfaction. The bar staff and management were helpful and friendly.
good selection of timothy taylor’s beer and good food in the offer. enjoyable to sit in the small beer garden on the back. the staff was very friendly.
