Stopped in to look at the menu a few days before I went there to eat. I was looking for a fantastic birthday dinner experience. The menu looked great, so we decided to celebrate here. at Yamas.A few days later, it was my birthday. We were seated quick enough, and our drink order was taken. A different staff member approached us moments later asking if we had been taken care of. I was impressed. Yet a different staff member delivered our drinks. Here's where things went sideways.I asked about the cook on the steak. I wanted between rare and medium rare. I was advised the steaks were cut pretty thin, so I should order rare. I did just that. Yamas had been consistently good over more years than I can remember. We were warmly greeted, quickly seated, and provided with attentive service. The décor provided a glimpse of Santorini in downtown Kelowna and the menu provided ample choice for anyone who enjoys Greek food. We were not disappointed and even had a little extra to take home for lunch the next day. Celebrating a birthday? Yamas seemed to be having a busy evening for birthdays on the day we visited with sparkler-topped slices of their fabulous, melt-in-your mouth ekmek being served all around us. The ambiance and decor were nice and plenty of free parking after 6 pm. We have had plenty of Greek food in the past and this was our first and last visit here. Our meals lacked freshness and flavour. The grilled calamari ($21) was a bunch of tiny pieces swimming in oil and covered with chopped onions. The Greek salad was limp and the feta tasted bland. It's the first time I had green peppers in a Greek salad. The best part of the meal were the potatoes that had a tangy lemon flavour. Other meals ordered at our table were dry lamb kebobs, moussaka, chicken kebobs and steak with shrimp. Everyone was average to below average. For the price, I would recommend dining elsewhere for Greek food.
I think this is the best this town has to offer in terms of Greek food, but that's not necessarily saying a lot. Compared to offerings I've had in Burnaby, Vancouver. even Abbotsford, I would say Yamas is a little below average. But here in Kelowna it is the best there is. It is pretty good food in a fairly nice setting with good staff, but for what it is I think the prices are slightly high. I've had much better Greek cuisine for less, let's put it that way.
We returned to Yamas after a few years and was sort of disappointed. The Greek salad was drowned in to much dressing and the chicken souvlaki was a but overlooked. The music was cranked for the belly dancer and it was impossible to talk. As well, a group of 20, using three tables, came into our section and the waitress was overwhelmed. We waited quite a while for our bill.It wasn't terribly bad but wish it had been better.
Well if you love Greek food you will definitely like Yamas. Friendly staff and fantastic food. Recommended by a local winery for quality didn't disappoint. We ordered takeout and we were not disappointed. Servings were big enough to enjoy for lunch the next day. The Broccoli pesto spaghetti with Chicken, the Chicken Souvlaki, the Greek Salad, the Caesar Salads, and the pita and humour were delicious.
We had not had Greek food for a while and the Yamas restaurant is less than 15 minutes from our home.We all had a great Greek salad, I had calamari, it was delicious, not overcooked and tender. All 4 of us were quite satisfied with our meals. We took our own bottle of wine and there was a $15:00 corkage fee.It is a good spot for both lunch
Our family (3 teenagers) joined another family for a wonderful dinner. Our friends are Greek and their recommendation meant a lot. Our server Sarah was super. The food was first rate! The atmosphere exactly what you'd expect in a restaurant in Greece. This is truly Greece in Kelowna. Prices are very reasonable.
