This is a very unassuming restaurant hidden away in a corner of a small, attractive square close to the centre of town. We came across it by accident but we are sure glad we did. The menu is very French and changes every day depending on the produce in season. It is all cooked fresh in the kitchen open to the customers and the menu is extremely good. As a complimentary starter, we were brought a small slice of crispy French bread with what tasted like mashed sardines with red onion and a dob of raspberry confit. Genius! It tasted delicious and was a good forerunner to what was to come. The main plate menu had something for everyone's taste. My wife chose the duck and it was very delicious and filling. I enjoyed the beef with ham and soft cheese, scallops of potato and shredded vegetable. Both meals came with fresh salad dressed to perfection. We could not leave without taking advantage of the dessert menu. Again, we were not disappointed. Delicious, well presented and beautifully prepared. I cannot speak highly enough of this restaurant. As the name suggests, it is mother's kitchen where the food is something special. And "maman" was patient with our poor grasp of the language, friendly and a wonderful host. Oh, and did I mention that the prices were very modest. If I was a resident of Bergerac, I would eat here several times a week. A BIG thank you. If you are in Bergerac you must share a meal at this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.
We came to this restaurant thinking that there would be surely a vegetarian option. There was nothing but meat and fish on the menu. Fortunately they made me a delicious seitan and vegetable stir-fry. We tried some bio local wine (Pécharmant) but it was too young and not very good. The dessert and coffee were very good.
We had a fish meal which was described as sea bass, admittedly the waitress had extremely limited English but we were surprised to be served with a dish of risotto with small pieces of fish in it. That would have been acceptable except that the fish had been cut up badly and was full of bone fragments, don't really understand why as sea bass is so easy to remove from the bone, it made for very unpleasant eating. The garnish was unusual and tasty, the dessert of clafoutis was nice as well.Actual restaurant is a very pleasant concept and has a relaxed atmosphere, but the memory of picking out those bits of bone out of my mouth will stay with me for some time I'm afraid.
Two mature couples. Dined here evening 18th June 2015. Don't be fooled by its exterior. The food was superb. Prepared individually and fresh. Different and excellent.A real find in Bergerac.Good value and it was a pleasure to watch the host preparing the desserts.Believe me, it put a lot of the restaurants in the town to shame.
We had an excellent meal yesterday evening in this small restaurant in the old town. You may choose a plat du jour or up to 3 small dishes, rather like tapas, which are served with an accompliment of seasonal salad etc. The dishes were interesting and well presented and a little different to the normal perigordian fare. The service was good and the price modest. We will certainly return.
