The only positive about this restaurant is the price and its location by the river with views of the Cathedral. We came for lunch and chose a first course and a main. The first course was a simple but tasty salad. Pity that the bread is served in a plastic basket. The main course was a bland piece of chicken served with undercooked rice and a cream sauce. I cook better at home on my worst day! Such a pity that they of not make more of the prime spot they have at Paray le Monial. Many people also could not get a table in the shadow on a day with very high temperatures. (30 degrees Celsius)
We chose this small restaurant because of its attractive location by the water, in the centre of town and close to a lovely view of the basilica. We also liked the fact it was full of French people and was a very informal, casual place to eat. There were five of us plus a baby and although the restaurant was very busy, the staff quickly made room for us on a table by a window. They could only offer us six snails rather than a dozen because they had run out. which we thought probably indicated all the food was fresh and just bought in for the day, which was a plus! We had a variety of dishes from typical French to pizza and all were good. We were not rushed by the staff and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, very reasonably.
We took our teenage grand daughter and her friend for a meal at O Fil d'Eau, choosing it because of its (small) terrace overlooking the river and with the famous Romanesque basilica in the background. The staff were busy, but still friendly and helpful, especially when we needed help translating the menu. There was an ideal choice fir us - a small French menu, including local specialities, and a good range of pizzas. Our starters, escargots and oeufs en meurettes were delicious. The Charolais beef was cooked just right and the pizzas were large and delicious. We all had desserts, with mine being a blackcurrant sorbet covered in Cassis and Marc de Bourgogne (pomace brandy), a heady concoction that tasted lovely. The price was reasonable, including our wine, and other drinks at around €25 a head.
This restaurant is just by the river with a view of the church in Paray-le-Monial. There is seating inside or outside by the river. The lady who served us said she only spoke a little English and we had a laugh about this and managed on broken French/English. I chose the set menu- 4 courses though I did skip the cheese course. My partner had 2 courses, a starter and a main. All the food was nicely presented and tasted very good. My only feedback would be it was a little over priced but we did not have time to compare with other restaurants in this town as only there for one night.
