Greeting was good, service was ok but the food was not. My husband had the very expensive sizzling steak which was ok but the duck in plum sauce was awful, the duck was tough and way overcooked and dry with only raw onion accompany it, the sauce was dried up and congealed. I could not eat it, they offered to give me another dish, I chose sweet and sour chicken which arrived super quick, again the chicken was hard and I could not chew it, the sauce was again sticky and very little of it, it looked unattractive and was impossible to eat. I was very disappointed as I was looking forward to this meal. The prices are extremely expensive and do not reflect the quality.
Visited with friends recently and we were disappointed with the food which was not as good as last times we have been to this restaurant. We arrived at 8.30 pm, and were rushed by hostile staff to order, eat and finish. Not a relaxing experience, until we asked for another round of drinks at 10.00pm and were flatly refused and were told that two drinks each was enough for anyone!! Bill brought to us without our asking. We were out of restaurant less than two hours after arriving. We were last to leave at 10.15 on a Saturday night. Will not return.
This restaurant is terrible. The prices are high in comparison to other Chinese restaurants, and they automatically add a service charge to the bill without asking. The staff is rude and added items to our bill that we did not order. When we asked for them to be removed, they were very disrespectful and insisted that we had ordered them. To top it off, we all got sick with food poisoning the next morning. Overall, it was a dreadful experience.
Having moved away in 2020 it had always been an ambition to visit again when we were back in the area, last night was that night. Booked in at 6.30pm, restaurant was busy and the takeaway phone never stopped, which tells its own story. Soft shell crab and squid to start, sea bass for the main, delightful, flawless, as good as ever. Looked after by Mr Chang and the superb staff, my god I miss The China Lodge. Until next time. We were at this restaurant to celebrate a friend's birthday. The food was delicious, but we felt like we were being rushed. The waiters were clearing plates before everyone had finished their meals and there was someone constantly hovering over our table, making us feel very uncomfortable. We were hoping for a nice, relaxing evening but it turned out to be anything but that.
Went to China Lodge yesterday 28th for a takeaway for 6. When I got home there was one meal missing which happened to be mine. It was too far away to go back so I had to make do with small amounts from the other meals. Although the food was generally good, the evening was spoiled by this. The bill was c£94 so this was most disappointing.
Disappointing. Squid very chewy Sizzling lamb tasted very much like Heinz’s tomato sauce, stated chillies x 2 no hint of chillies. No interaction when paying for the meal at the table and seeing the amount left to find out if all was OK. Seems the set meals were being served all around!
Staff were very rude! Wasn’t happy when we asked to take the service charge off. Be mindful of this everyone! They automatically add a service charge onto your bill so don’t be afraid to ask them to take it off. We definitely asked them to take it off after our experience Réservez une table maintenant
