We expected a romantic birthday dinner but instead had to ask the women next to us to tone it down. Food was just okay. Mussels for an appetizer had huge shells and small mussels inside with several shells not even open. Our paella was spicy; way too spicy for me and a bit too spicy for my husband. We've had paella before in other restaurants and I could eat it all. I left most of it here. The experience fell way short of expectations and we've decided to cross this restaurant off our list of dinner places in Providence, RI. I'm a member of the Newport Restaurant Reewards program and was extremely disappointed.
Hemenway's always meets our expectations. The food was delicious, however the mahi mahi special was a little cold. The seafood casserole and pork chop were both perfectly hot and delicious. Normally the noise level is moderate but there were a few parties last evening who were very loud making it difficult to hear the wait staff. Our waitress, Lila, did recognize that the noise level was higher than usual and she gladly repeated the mahi mahi special for me. This experience will not deter me from recommending Hemenway's as one of the best restaurants in Providence. Still my fave!!!
Went for a birthday dinner. Exceptional. The crab cake appetizer was likely the best we had. It was airy, not dense and perfectly seasoned and prepared. We had one Rhode Island clam chowder. Tasty and smoky. For entrees we had the stuffed shrimp and the tuna. The latter was high quality but just a bit chewy- which was a bit unexpected. Wrapped up with the flourless chocolate with a candle. Excellent spot. Excellent meal!
We had a wonderful meal last night big thank you our knowledgeable server Bob R who answered all of our questions about the menu and spaced the timing between our courses perfectly. Hamacho crudo, sesame crusted tuna, and Rhode Island clam chowder, along with a great selection from the raw bar were standouts of our meal!

It had been over a year since I last visited but my experience was absolutely amazing food was fantastic got the Karen Elizabeth Scallops very different and clever flavor profiles. Our server Mia was very welcoming and friendly gave excellent suggestions upon ordering very good customer service I will return back soon
Our waitress was amazing! The food was incredible! Overall had such a beautiful anniversary they made the night so special! It's hard when we have 5 children and can only ever go out on our wedding anniversary and tonight was perfect thanks to the staff!
Great place to have a leisurely, alfresco lunch on a summer afternoon with friends. The food was delicious, service superb and our Jack Russell was allowed to sit at our feet and drink from the water bowl they provided. We'd go again!
I really like my experience yesterday. I like their clam chowder, it's definitely one of the best one I've ever had before. and their food is quite Spanish style, which is a unique experience for me. Overall, I'll be there next time.

We come here everytime we are in providence. The oysters are always fresh as well as all the shellfish. The shellfish platter is a must. Great lobster, shrimp and oysters for reasonable $72 .. service is good and we like the vibe.
