Almost a week since my wife and I enjoyed an evening at Mallard Cottage and it still rings true in my mind. Not just a lovely meal, not just a lovely venue, but a lovely experience all around. All the food was prepared to perfection and piping hot when it arrived at our table. Everything was abundant with flavour(and I do not mean salty like so many other establishments). LOVE how local and authentic the dishes were. Naturally, the seafood was a strong point. If they're serving the diver scallop I strongly suggest you try it. Took a crazy risk that we could luck into a table without a reservation for brunch today. No tables were available (it IS the Christmas season after all) but we got, in my opinion, an even better seat: at the bar, overlooking the kitchen. It was very busy indeed but the wait staff made the three of us feel like we’d just popped in for a visit in their home. The guy behind the bar taking care of us for the most part was a gem. I've eaten at quite a few restaurants while living in the St. John's area. This was my first time dining at Mallard Cottage. I have to say that it was by far the best meal I have eaten out yet! The whole experience was amazing. Our server Des was extremely helpful and very cool and funny and took care of us so well. The appetizers of smoked mackerel and the corn battered cod cheeks were amazing. The halibut dishes were the best halibut i have ever tasted. And the desserts...oh my god..yet again amazing. Top marks to the chefs and staff for a truly amazing dining experience.

Mallard Cottage is an amazing dining experience in the idyllic setting of Quidi Vidi Harbour, do not miss eating here if you are in Newfoundland. Great menu, friendly and professional staff, and the decor is appointed in such an interesting and eclectic way consistent with the era it was built. It's like going back to the 1700's but with a modern twist... Great for lunch or dinner, best place I have eaten in St. John's. The whole experience was amazing.
One of Canada's most celebrated restaurants.....5 star by some.....and it does not disappoint....housed in one of the oldest wooden structures in the entire Western Hemisphere the atmosphere is fantastic.....service is outstanding.....and the food.....comprised primarily of what is available locally.....was delicious from beginning to end......we were served family style with 8 courses and each dish even better than the last.....Highest recommendation.
Enjoyed breakfast Jan 27, travelling through from Victoria BC. Made a wonderful start to my Saturday! Food was delicious and an added bonus was the 80's music rocking in the background. Definitely a must visit to experience the local food and East Coast warmth. Staff were very friendly and service was attentive. Thank you for a memorable time!
My husband and I stayed at the Inn and had supper at the restaurant. We had the family style tasting menu and it was fantastic. One of the best meals we've had. So much fresh, local food in a creative way. The atmosphere was warm and friendly with an open fireplace and local decor. Highly recommend!

We had the mussels and beef cheek, both were amazing. We sat at the bar as they were all booked up. The bar tender provides excellent conversation and entertainment as we watched him make cocktails). I would highly recommend checking the cottage out.
What a wonderful meal we had. We did the family style option which allowed us to sample almost the whole menu. The staff was excellent and very knowledgeable. An excellent meal!
