I went here months ago and thought it was mundane and average. I thought I would try again. I ordered the money bags and the steamed whole snapper. The young waiter took my order and came back and said they ran out of whole snapper last night. It was 6 pm on a Saturday and I'm not one for assumptions but I've been in hospitality 30 years and a family run business is what this place appears to be and he should know they ran out yesterday. So I said I'll have the beef masman. Money bags came out. Garnishes were very 70s with 2 slices of orange,a slice of carrot and the bottom of a baby boc choy. Had dinner with colleagues after training session. Ordered vegetarian spring rolls and chicken satay. Average presentation and taste. Sauces were a huge disappointment and lacked taste and punch (tasted like prepackaged sauce even sweet chilli sauce). Mains ordered were red curry chicken, massaman beef, pad Thai and vegetarian stir fry. Massaman curry was very runny. Pad Thai lacked the requisite holy basil, bamboo and bean sprouts. Couldn't spot any tofu and no crushed peanuts nor lime. Rice wasn't fragrant and lacked fluffiness of hot fresh cooked rice.Service was slow and not attentive.Had maccas afterwards which tasted better!

I've been here a few times and in a city filled with too many Thai places, it can be hard to find the good ones. Yes, this place is upstairs and decor is dated. The food, however, is extremely tasty and reasonably priced. Plus, it's BYO.Must haves include the betel leaf parcels (not on the menu, but always on the chalk board specials). Larb, curries, pad Thai are all good.

Most importantly don't be put off when you open the door and you see the stained and torn stair carpet. Upstairs decor isn't much better, but it's worth it for the food. I would definitely recommend going here, but owners please update the decor!
