We had lunch heree as part of our gourmet break in Vonnas. It was well worth the pretty ride across the Soane on a beautiful autumn day. When we arrived we could hear children's voices from an adjoining room and deduced that we had arrived during le semaine de gout which happens in France every year in October. The head waiter confirmed that we were correct and that every year they invited classes from the two local primary schools, their teachers and the local mayor to share lunch. Very much the same as the one we ordered no burgers and chips to be seen. We were highly amused that, as each course arrived the chattering stopped and a contented quiet decended Our simple but delicious lunch was beautifully cooked and presented. A well seasoned and spiced guacamole, followed by perfectly cooked fish on a lemony sauce with a butternut puree. The dessert was a red fruit milles feuilles which looked and tasted lovely, The service was extremely friendly but professional and well paced. If we were in the area again we would not hestitate to have another meal there.

Approaching the premises one gets that wow effect. Typically Georges Blanc style. Yet that impression quickly vanishes once you get inside the restaurant. Still very designed but it 's a huge hall, probably ideal for a wedding of 120+ guests. The accueil is far from professional. The amuses bouche are put in front of you without any explanation. The waiters team consisted of one quite professional lady, an elderly gentleman and two guys who had not much of an idea of what serving a good table meant. The tartare de saumon was ok, nothing special to say about the oeufs meuretttes. The ris de veau was so lala, just fried with not much taste and the accompanying jus? Well, do not remember what it tasted like. All this did not tempt us to have desserts. So in essence: not a good reference for the various tables claiming the Georges Blanc brand. Spoke with a few restaurateurs in the area about our experience and they politely but hesitantly somewhat agreed with our judgement. The place has potential though.

We stayed at nearby Fleurie and this was the only place open on a Sunday evening. Unsure at first as the decor is a bit 'rouge and blanc ' in a rather loud way but we were so pleasantly surprised as everything was spot on. Highly recommended.
