We were visiting from Victoria and were driving through McLaren Vale looking for a suitable place to eat lunch. We came across The Salopian by chance and we are so glad we did. The Restaurant looks like an old historical house from the outside but inside it was modern, cosy and warm. We were greeted by a very nice lady and seated next to a window. The menu was lovely. My husband and ordered the fish which was Barramundi with interesting salad leaves freshly picked from the garden, nuts, pomegranate and other crunchy bits. . We also had a large serve of beautifully roasted potatoes as a side dish. For dessert we shared a rice pudding with stewed apple which was to die for. I could not say any...

Been there previously and it was amazing, unfortunately they missed the mark this time and we won't be back. The winter menu in the restaurant is different to the winter menu they have advertised online which was disappointing as some of the dishes we wanted they didn't have. The dishes we did have lacked flavour and came out at all different times (for which we received an apology and can't fault the wait staff who did a great job!) I had to wait the longest for for my med rare steak, which did no taste aged at all and didn't come out with the horseradish or carrots as advertised on the menu. The roasted potatoes tasted like they were cooked early on in the day and reheated at service, agai...
The decore is cosy and comfortable , and the waitress was cheerful and helpful. We shared a starter of pork parcels , absolutely delicious. For main course I had chicken-- the centre wasn't cooked through. The rest of the dish was very nice. My other half had lamb pie-- huge disappointment. There was plenty of lamb but it was dry and on the tough side. The vegetable with the lamb were Brussels sprouts. They were virtually raw -- not at all pleasant. The side of "handcut" chips were over salted and more like small frozen chips. We really were disappointed. The place appeared to be full of locals. It was very well supported. We chose this restaurant as other places were shut. I would go there agai...
The "Feed me" menu is great. Interesting varied food. We were getting full after the entree plates but still managed the very meaty main courses and dessert. An excellent wine cellar was a great browse with some very interesting Australian and European wines. Service was attentive and friendly. Thanks Claire. If there is one criticism it is that the menu is very meat-weighted. A couple of interesting vegetable dishes would have been welcome; then we might have finished the meal! I will be there again though. Réservez une table maintenant
The Salopian Inn was recommended to us by the folk at Samue'ls Gorge and we're so glad we went. The food was delicious and the service amazing. We ordered the pork belly, when my friend mentioned there was no crackling on her pork belly, they gave us our lunch for free!! We were shocked by the generousity and impressed they take so much care with what they offer. The wine cellar downstairs was cool too. I would go out of my way to eat here again.
We took a chance and were able to get into the fabulous Salopian Inn for a late lunch. Being gluten and dairy free I was pleased to have the choice of a number of very tasty dishes. My choice was a pork coconut pancake which was delicious and tasty as. The sides were large and definitely suitable for sharing. Great service in a welcoming atmosphere. The aboriginal artwork would have been worth the visit alone.
We were on a tour of the McLaren Vale, this was our lunch time stop. Amazing food, I walked past another table that was having the same meal as my group, even though it was a quick meal on mass it was beautifully presented with food from the region. They have a cellar you can go pick your own wine for your meal. Beautiful old home with what seemed like private areas. Loved this restaurant.
We both had a really good steak, cooked just as ordered, excellent roast potatoes and steamed greens. Sashimi tuna for starters was delicious. Service was very good, cheerful, knowledgeable, nothing too much trouble. This is not a cheap place but very well worth visiting. Réservez une table maintenant
Melt in the mouth food in a beautiful setting, and an impressive underground wine cellar! Can't wait to be back for more!!
We enjoyed superb food and wine in this cosy historical cottage just on the outskirts of McLaren Vale.
