Whistle Stop At The American Cafe

We were initially seated at the front of the restaurant, in the room with the mini train that drives around on a track hanging from the ceiling. Our two year old was very pleased that they turned the train on for her. The doors were open, so it was a bit warm where we were seated. Thank goodness, Wendy was our server. She saw our daughter’s cheeks getting pink and that she was becoming fussy and asked if we’d like to move to the back, where it was cooler. She also brought her a cup of mandarin oranges and a small duck toy to play with while we waited on our food. And the food? Delicious!! I would have given two stars but I’m giving 3 because the place was very clean, and super cute. We were really excited to sit down inside and eat for the first time with our kids. We have had good experiences outside on the roof for drinks. However we waited an hour for our food to come out and with two kids that can turn into a lot they blamed it on the kitchen being backed up but our food was all cold? Sooo that doesn’t make sense. Our server was nice and she took the ribs off the ticket bc I didn’t even feel it was safe to eat them because they were refrigerator level cold. The fat was coagulated from being so cold. My partner and I stopped at this restaurant during our bike tour from Greenville to Travelers Rest. We were looking for something light before heading back, so we ordered the pretzel and some fried pickles. The pretzel was huge and the beer cheese was excellent. The fried pickles were a bit salty, but the batter was light, which was a nice change from other places that coat them heavily. The staff was friendly and attentive, always keeping our drinks filled. I would love to come back and try some of their pizzas, as they looked amazing on the menu, along with the chicken sandwich.

Ordered a BLT and a side salad. Husband ordered a burger and rings. Food was the right temp and tasty. Were en route from Atlanta to Asheville; this spot in Travelers Rest was just what we needed...not a chain but open, had a table available. Server was good...very competent and pleasant. Prices were competitive with similar restaurants. Would recommend and would be regular customers if we lived closer.

We stopped here for a light meal late afternoon after shopping. We opted to go upstairs on the deck to enjoy a nice day. The service was great and the beer was very cold. Service and food are just ok, pretty overpriced. Cost us $80 for 3 people. Might try again sometime, just be careful what you order because the tab can run out of control quickly.
